Poster Presentation Abstract
Can civilization survive without fossil fuels? Traditionally, energy decisions concerning the role of fossil fuels as a sustainable energy source are impacted by the negative connotations associated with them. When it comes to evaluating fossil fuels as an energy source, it is often difficult to determine what our moral obligations are. Should society focus on what is best for its members and what is socially responsible? Or is society obligated to prioritize the environment? It seems necessary to re-evaluate the role fossil fuels play as an energy source and the impact they have on society. Is it possible that society exaggerates the costs associated with this energy source, while losing sight of all the benefits they provide? Society can continue to criticize fossil fuels, but ultimately fossil fuels have greatly improved various aspects enhancing the quality of life and civilization.
